VARESE SCHOOL CUP

“Mens sana in corpore sano.” A phrase too well known to need translating. Widely used, yet not always applied by everyone in real life.

According to WHO guidelines, adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity per week, in addition to muscle-strengthening exercises twice a week. Children and adolescents should also do regular physical activity for at least 60 minutes a day, while pregnant women and the elderly should do moderate physical activity according to their ability.

These guidelines are often disregarded, sometimes due to objective reasons, sometimes out of sheer laziness. How to help people overcome all this? That is the question to which all of us at Lasi Spa have been trying to provide some effective answers for some time now.

We have chosen multiple lines of action: one within the company, through a campaign aiming to encourage all our colleagues to make healthy choices, such as walking or cycling instead of driving a car, exercising during their free time, and incorporating exercise into their daily routine.

Another line of action looks outward and consists in supporting schools in organising sports activities. Among this type of projects, we are pleased to participate in the organisation of the Varese School Cup basketball tournament, a sporting event held every year.

It is a tournament organised for secondary schools (first and second grade) in the Varese area, with the aim of promoting sports and physical activity among young people.

Established in 2013, the Varese School Cup basketball tournament quickly became, and has been ever since, one of the most eagerly awaited sporting events in the Varese area every year. Each edition of the tournament involves about 200 students belonging to 10 teams from different schools.

The tournement is divided into different rounds, with teams competing in single-elimination games until the final.

The final will be played on Saturday, 6th May, at the 'Lino Oldrini' Arena in Varese.

The event is not only limited to basketball games, but also includes activities and workshops related to sport, nutrition and health of young people. This way, the Varese School Cup basketball tournament promotes the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle while encouraging the practice of sports among young people.

Basketball is one of the most popular sports in Italy and events such as the Varese School Cup help to increase young people’s interest in this sport. Moreover, the tournament is an opportunity for young people to develop skills such as discipline, concentration and teamwork, which are important not only in sport, but also in everyday life.

We are very proud to be part of this project and to support it with enthusiasm.
